Northeastern BC Mine WTP: Sludge Dewatering Case Study

Two HAUS DDE 3542 decanter centrifuges, duty and standby, dewater the biological sludge from the MBBR water treatment plant at a mine in northeastern BC.

The application

A mine in northeastern BC treats its mine-impacted water in a moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) water treatment plant. The biological process produces a dilute waste activated sludge that has to be dewatered around the clock.

The engineering and construction contractor for the plant procured the dewatering equipment from Archer. Two HAUS DDE 3542 centrifuges, one duty and one standby, handle the full flow, with one control panel running both machines, the feed pumps and the polymer system.

Archer had a DDE 3542 in stock, built and tested the control panel and junction boxes in its shop, and shipped the package in September 2024.

What Archer supplied

  • Two HAUS DDE 3542 dual-drive decanter centrifuges (1 duty, 1 standby): duplex 2205 bowl, flame-sprayed tungsten carbide scroll and feed-zone protection, 18.5 kW main drive and 7.5 kW back-drive
  • One stainless steel control panel for both centrifuges, the feed pumps, the polymer system and the cake conveyor, with Ethernet/IP link to the plant PLC
  • SYDEX progressive cavity sludge feed and polymer feed pumps
  • Kozegho polymer make-down system and sludge and polymer flowmeters
  • Stainless steel centrate chutes, vibration transmitters and bearing RTDs
  • Factory testing of the centrifuges, control panel and polymer unit in the Archer shop; start-up and commissioning support
