Roots Blowers
A Durable, Low-Cost, Low-Maintenance, and Efficient Form of Pump Equipment
Sometimes it's simply a necessity—a filtration or separation system needs to find means of aerating industrial or organic waste. Without this aeration to encourage digestion of micro-organisms, a wastewater treatment system might not overcome environmental BOD and COD requirements.
Archer Separation provides Roots-type blowers, a sewage and waste aeration solution that's low-cost, low maintenance and highly efficient.
What are the advantages of Roots-type blowers?
Roots blowers are a ‘positive displacement’ pump, meaning they increase the pressure in their enclosed system without adding any external pressure. A Roots blower operates by rotating a set of matched lobe rotors (in contrast to the more recognizable cogs or gears) counter-rotating in a highly durable cast iron setting. The snug, durable fit and contrasting rotation creates a difference in pressure on either side of the lobed rotors, creating the mechanical action that pressurizes the system. This makes Roots-type blowers ideal for vacuum pumping, pneumatic conveyance, and fluid aeration—any systems where water vapor may be present and present compression challenges for other types of pumps or blowers.

Roots blowers offer smaller, regulated pressure increases relative to other compressors; these restrained increases in pressure make Roots blowers extremely efficient at delivering consistent output at lower speeds and pressures than traditional compressors (which can demand a lot of flow or very high added pressure). This low operating pressure means Roots blowers have unparallelled efficiency-to-energy cost ratios and lower noise levels than other industrial or organic waste pumps and compressor systems!
These qualities make a Roots blower well suited for pneumatic applications, like industrial or organic wastewater treatment and conveyance, which call for low pressures with high air volume to oxygenate biochemical reactions—in other words, introducing more oxygen to improve wastewater treatment efficiency. This allows Roots blowers to meet stricter environmental standards while offering their operator substantially lower costs and fewer maintenance headaches.
Advantages of a Roots-type blower
High air output to energy input with a continuous, stable airflow—over 90% volumetric efficiency at optimal speeds. At Archer Separation we have decades of experience helping our partners achieve this efficiency, both during installation and remotely.
Non-contact pumping via counter-rotating lobed rotors means Roots blowers offer the maximum energy to output ratio—great for waste treatment, where aeration and digestion of wastewater is crucial to meet environmental standards.
Simple, durable cast-iron contruction means Roots-type blowers offer low buy-in and easy long-term maintenance, making them a worthwhile investment for your industrial waste or organic waste systems.
Unobtrusive, producing minimal noise and vibrations. Roots-type blowers are ideal for a variety of installation environments!
With these advantages in mind, operators can consider Roots blowers an all-in-one solution for aeration and compression of a wastewater fluid system. The Roots blower offers the most value and compression for the least energy input, and does so with long-term durability and efficiency in mind, meaning its operator can spend more time and resources elsewhere; the Roots blower handles the complexities of incorporating oxygen to induce biochemical reactions while also conveying the waste materials, and we at Archer Separation handle remote adjustments and optimization of your equipment.
